Oscars go, went, gone!

As a viewer, this year's Oscars is less glamorous but "warmer", and quite entertaining too.

As a translator, it's actually a relatively easy show to translate, yet with more dialogues (cheaper budget, fewer props and less glamorous backdrop, so, they add in more dialogues! Some of us were cursing when we watched the live telecast this morning).

As a woman, I am charmed by the gentlemanly Hugh Jackman. Well, I consider Billy Crystal (I just love him) to be the "eternal MC for the Oscars", and Jackman nearly beat him. He sings and dances well.

As a person, the one point I was touched (I didn't watch much of the show tonight, left the office quite late, ended up watching only the last hour or so) was when Kate Winslet asked her parents to whistle to her, so that she could locate them. And her dad whistled, for everyone to hear. So sweet.

As a tired office worker, I really should sleep now.

Last but not least, as a movie lover, I couldn't wait to catch (1)"The Reader" and (2) "Frost/Nixon". Want to catch "Revolutionary Road", too.... wonder if it's still on or not.

As for the big winner, "Slumdog Millionaire", my bro and sister-in-law watched it on their side, and she thinks it's "my type of movie" (indie/ artsy-fartsy/ interesting in a certain way movie).

Years ago, one of the reasons I got attracted to TV subtitles translation was - The Oscars, the TV station I work for provides "same day broadcast with subtitles" every year, in which the whole translation team translates the whole show in a matter of a few hours (well, you might think it's easy, it's not!). It's a crazy task and yet the team does wonder every year. When I was young and merely a TV viewer, I thought, "oh, how exciting to do such a job, what a challenge". I actually mentioned it when I went for my first interview with my boss. And then, after I started working for the station, after the first time I did it, I realized - it - was - simply - crazy - and - dead - tiring.

Tomorrow, I will go back and help out as a freelancer, it has been quite a few years since I last did it. And, I am feeling tired already, just by imagining the pressure and the clicking clock.... gosh, I am so old.

霧中風景

昨早船上的霧中風景，令我想起魔戒的two towers (二缺一!!)

夜。中環。

自小我便很喜歡這幢大廈- 就在它還叫「康樂大廈」的時候。

住在九龍的我，小時候，總覺得港島的一切都比較時尚和摩登，而康樂大廈更是箇中表表者，是我心中的中環地標。你看，它的設計真的很特別，不是嗎？

即使過了這麼多年，
即使它的旁邊多了國金和交易廣場，
即使這些那些，
它仍是我心中的中環地標。

前幾年曾在這幢大廈裡面工作，頭一天上班，心底裡某處，真的有絲絲興奮。後來呢，每天晚上拖著疲乏的身子下班，可沒心思再多看它一眼。多可惜。

很久很久沒有在工作天的晚上，在中環出沒。特記拍一張照片，以博客為記。

攝於舊同學家中，他說，由於有很多親友在英國，因此他們家裡有一套又一套的WEDGWOOD 骨瓷茶具。每一套都很精緻的啊！
呷一口WEDGEWOOD盛著的果茶，人也優雅起來呢。

epiphany daunted with the help of wine.

With a glass of red wine, you won't get drunk but you'll face your "true self" (your yearnings, fears, loves and loathings) easier.

I am facing my true self right now.
And I just realised something laid deep inside.

I am not drunk but I am slightly light-headed - how I miss the days I drank with friends, by the way - evidence for me not being drunk (1) I think I don't have spelling mistakes, haha (2) of course I won't spell out my so called epiphany here! ta-da.
